The Myth busting series is designed to address misconception and misunderstandings in EYFS practice. It is now understood that the role of language development is vital in developing effective learners and, in particular, addressing the attainment gap built on disadvantage. A child’s use of, and confidence with language, understanding of linguistic protocal and development of vocabulary are vital components of ensuring success.

This CPD event will challenge myths on language development and provide research based evidence on how to evaluate and enhance the effectiveness or practice and provision. It will be underpinned by a theoretical perspectives and will include immediate and long term practical strategies to use in EYFS provision

The session will focus on:

· How children acquire language and the physical elements that underpin this

· Developing an appropriate sequential curriculum to ensure that progress is clear for all children

· How learning environments – indoor and out – facilitate, support and enhance language opportunities

· How effective teaching can focus on language development in all aspects

· The role of effective back and forth interactions to support language development

· The role of Cultural capital and the development of Personal vocabularies

· Supporting educator confidence in their own pedagocical approaches
