About

Shared reading is a valuable mechanism for supporting language development for all children but may be especially valuable for children with Down syndrome who often struggle to access spoken language.

This talk will introduce PACT-DS: A co-developed teaching programme for parents and children who have Down syndrome which uses book sharing as a tool for language learning.

Findings will be presented from a mixed methods feasibility randomised controlled trial which demonstrate that parents can play a uniquely powerful role in supporting children’s language development through shared book reading when they are supported to do so.
