About

Essex Wildlife Trust Volunteer, Paul Everett, joins us to uncover the nocturnal world of one of Britain's most charismatic animals.

Badgers are the largest, but probably least observed, of the Mustelidae family of mammals, due to their nocturnal lifestyle. Many people’s first introduction to these enduring creatures was through children’s stories, such as Wind in the Willows, where they are portrayed as social, wise and dependable, or in the case of Beatrix Potters’ Tommy Brocks, a villainous scoundrel. But few people have had the opportunity to observe them in the wild, and those that are lucky enough to do so, are often surprised by what they learn.

This illustrated talk introduces the life of the badger, its habitat, lifestyle, breeding cycle, food preferences and interaction with other wildlife, while also perhaps dispelling a myth or two along the way.
