ABOUT THE EVENT

Protospiel events have grown hugely in the USA over the past 8 years, but this will be the first time such an event has taken place in the UK. We hope that it will inspire others to organise Protospiels in other UK cities and to support local charities. All profits from our event will be donated to Nottingham Children's Hospital; find out more about their Big Appeal here

For game designers, Protospiel events are an invaluable source of playtesting feedback from fellow designers and tabletop enthusiasts. The day will comprise of open playtesting with the ethos of the event being 'I scratch your back, you scratch mine'; if a designer playtests your game, try your best to return the favour. If time is tight and you don't get a chance to do this on the day, exchange contact details and offer to help in some other way.

For those guests joining us as playtesters, Protospiel will be a fantastic opportunity for you to influence the boardgames of the future. You'll be able to try lots of different games, and the experience might even inspire you to try your hand at game design.

If nothing else, we hope that the day is a chance to meet others who share your passion. The tabletop community is one of the friendliest and most inclusive groups around; we would encourage you to be generous with your time and constructive with your feedback to help everybody make the most of the event.

Protospiel Nottingham is kindly supported by The Game Crafterwho have donated prototyping materials which will be available for on-the-day game design. The Game Crafter is a print-on-demand board game service based in the US; you can find the website here

Water will be provided for attendees; if you'd like to pop out for something else there are lots of cafes and restaurants available with a minutes' walk of the venue. Take a look at this map for some suggestions. If you fancy making a weekend of your visit, Nottingham is a great city to explore and there are plenty of places to stay near the venue.

For more general information about Protospiel events, click here. Protospiel Milwaukee have put together a great FAQ page which is also very helpful. US Protospiels are typically weekend-long affairs, but the same general principles will apply at Protospiel Nottingham.

As this is our first year, we would be hugely grateful if you could share the event with others who might be interested. The more attendees we have, the more effective the playtesting will be and the more money we'll raise for Nottingham Children's Hospital.
