Creating a County: The Emergence of Lancashire 700-1200

Location
Central Methodist Church Lune Street, Preston, Lancashire, PR1 2NL
About
Lancashire was the last but one of the 39 historic English counties to be created, and that it ever became an administrative area was largely a matter of chance. This talk explores the way in which, before and after the Norman Conquest, a collection of disparate territories, extending from the Mersey to the Wrynose Pass, were gradually brought together by kings, princes and bishops, over a period of 500 years.
An illustrated talk by Dr. Alan Crosby.
Members free of charge. Visitors £5.
Doors open at 6:30pm for refreshments and registration.
