🍄 Come and explore the world of fungi on our walk! 🌳
Join Bogdana from Lambourne End Gardens for an informal fungi walk as we venture together into Hainault Forest.
This will be an introductory journey into the fascinating world of fungi — learning to notice, appreciate and understand these often-overlooked beings and their relationships with trees, plants and the wider woodland ecosystem.
On the walk, we’ll explore different fungal habitats and tree associations, the basics of identification and some of the key features of different fungi groups. We’ll also touch on edible and poisonous species, medicinal fungi, traditional uses, and the ethics and laws around foraging in the UK.
Along the way, we might also reflect on the cultural histories of foraging, Indigenous knowledges, our ideas of “nature”, and what fungi can teach us about interdependence, kinship and community.
Please note: this is an educational and exploratory walk — we will not be foraging or collecting mushrooms.
What to bring
Comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, water/ hot drink, snacks/lunch and insect/tick repellent. A portable stool can be provided.
I’ll provide fungi ID books/keys and hand lenses for the walk.
🌿 Meet at Lambourne End Community Garden, then we’ll head into Hainault Forest together.
