Veronica Henderson, Cello

The central work in Veronica's recital is the Suite for Solo Cello by Gaspar Cassadó. Written two centuries after J. S. Bach's famous unaccompanied suites for the instrument, it was impossible to write such a work without looking over one's shoulder to the influence of these pieces. A student of Casals, Cassadó was well aware of the status unaccompanied cello music was acquiring in the concert repertoire.
