About
what is GROUP MENTOR coaching?
Mentor Coaching is a developmental coaching process in which coaching is observed and objectively assessed against a set of criteria or competences. The aim is to improve the quality of coaches' skills and approaches so they can be at their best.
It differs from ‘supervision’ in that mentor-coaching focuses on your coaching and its impact on the client; ‘supervision’ focuses on the coach rather than the coaching and is a more subjective process, addressing whatever a coach chooses to bring. So, mentor-coaching focuses on your coaching as it happens, where both mentor-coach and coach access the same material ‘live’ and ‘in the moment’ (or via a recording).
In an intimate group of no more than six coaches, you will take turns to coach each other while your mentor-coach, and your peers, partner to observe your coaching. You will then receive constructive observations on your coaching, with reference to agreed benchmark competencies, to support a reflective discussion to improve everyone's effectiveness and power as a coach.
- An initial contracting, agreeing how we work together
- Reflection and implementation planning for your coaching practice
- Guidance on the real challenges of observation and offering feedback
- Exploration of the agreed benchmarks for measurement
- Practising coaching
- Observing others coaching
- Review and feedback on your own and others’ coaching
- Identification of strengths and opportunities for ongoing learning
