Guided Heritage Walks - Bromborough Pool Village

Between Saturday 12 September 2026 and Saturday 19 September 2026
Join us for a fascinating journey through time with free guided heritage walking tours around the historic Bromborough Pool Village as part of National Heritage Week. Step into one of Britain’s best preserved model villages and uncover the remarkable story of the community built around industry, innovation and family life. From its distinctive architecture and historic streets to the stories of the people who lived and worked here, Bromborough Pool offers a unique glimpse into Victorian village life. Built between 1853 and 1858 for the workers of the nearby Price's Patent Candle Company candle factory, the village was created as a pioneering example of industrial philanthropy; providing quality housing, green spaces and community facilities for employees and their families. Predating the nearby Port Sunlight by several decades, Bromborough Pool is recognised as one of the earliest and most important examples of an English industrial model village. During your visit you will be able to: Enjoy engaging guided heritage village tours Explore selected historic buildings not usually open to the public (St Matthews Church, The old School and Giles Shirley Hall) View a special display of historic artefacts, memorabilia and rare photographs in the café Discover the history of the Price’s Candle Factory and the lives of the workers who shaped the community Learn about Victorian social reform, architecture and the development of one of Britain’s earliest model villages Whether you are a local resident, history enthusiast or simply curious to discover somewhere new, we would be delighted to welcome you to this special heritage event. All talks and tours are free of charge and open to all ages. Tickets are free, but must be booked in advance, if you can no longer attend then please cancel you ticket to allow others to book. The café will also be open throughout the event for visitors wishing to purchase refreshments, lunch, or afternoon tea. Afternoon tea bookings must be made in advance by calling 0151643 1359
