Introduction to Green Woodworking - Bowl turning

Between Saturday 7 February 2026 and Saturday 21 March 2026
Whether you are completely new to green woodworking, or you’ve previously done our original Introduction to Green Woodworking course using a spindle, why not have a go at bowl turning? To help you dive straight in, you will start with a bowl blank already mounted on the pole lathe. Richard will patiently guide you on how to use the hook tools which will gradually turn the wood into your bowl. After your first bowl is complete, Richard will help you to prepare your own blank. Starting from a log, you will use an axe to shape it on a chopping block, and then mount it on the lathe ready for turning. The aim is that by the end of the day you should have at least one or maybe two bowls to take home, as well as enough core skills to be able to progress by yourself. All tools are supplied by the instructor. Maximum 4 participants.

Bird Ringing demonstration

Between Sunday 2 June 2024 and Sunday 1 June 2025
Join our local bird ringers from the Iceni Bird Monitoring Group, on a morning bird ringing demonstration. This is an opportunity for a small group of 8 people to see what is involved in bird monitoring on the farm. During the session, Chris and Denise will explain how they monitor the birds, including what species have been found on the farm at which times of year. If conditions are right and any birds are caught they will demonstrate how they are then monitored. This session is weather dependent, as there is little bird activity while it is raining or during periods of strong wind etc. There is also no guarantee of what species will be found. We will communicate with you as early as possible if the weather does not look favourable and therefore we need to cancel. Children are welcome, if accompanied by an adult at all times, and remain the responsibility of that adult. Please check the booking confirmation for where to meet, as this session is not at the main farm site.
