Why does your child say 'no'? Intended for professionals working with children who present demand avoidant behaviours, this session provides the opportunity to discover underlying reasons for avoidance, understand the educational impact and gain solutions, strategies and advice.

A session with a focus on autism awareness and strategies to support in nursery, preschool or early years settings. We will talk through strategies, watch videos and look at example resources. This session includes time to problem solve and ask questions.

An opportunity to tour around our specialist CSCN (Complex Social Communication Needs) school for students aged 4-19. The tour will be led by a member of the outreach team. To minimise disruption to our students, these are the only times we will be able to show you around.

A look at how autism can present differently and strategies to reduce anxiety levels in a mainstream classroom. There are different presentations of autism, known as ‘internal’ and 'external’ which, in the past, may have been associated with girls and boys. Children and young people with an internal presentation can fall ‘under the radar’ and not receive help until much later. During this session we will explore the signs to look out for and how our strategies can subtly differ. Anxiety is often a huge barrier for the all of our young people, and can lead to the need to mask, or shield; so we will also look at how anxiety can present for young people with autism and what we can do to help. We will work through some case study examples in groups and consider which methods of support will have the most impact. There will be the opportunity to talk to the Outreach Team about specific challenges which you face, and think about some strategies to support the child you work with.

On-line only During the sessions you will receive training on Autism Awareness, helping to build your understanding of the day to day difficulties experienced by someone with ASD both in Early Years and Primary classroom settings.
