Shame: Understanding and treating shame

Friday 27 March 2026
Shame can be a vague and triggering topic for many of us; and can show up in almost all of our clinical work. Thankfully it is well written and theorised about, and in this one-day training course we will cover ways to spot, understand, and treat shame in our clinical work. We will consider the origins and purpose of shame, and how this can present intrapsychically, relationally, and in the wider society. We will take this understanding and consider how shame can show up in our clinical work and what it would mean to work in a shame-based way. Throughout this day we will consider both TA and non-TA models for working with shame, to consider practically the best ways to support ourselves and our clients. This will be an online course running from 9:30am until 5pm on the 27th of March. This course is aimed at trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists, and costs £90.

Script: Practically assessing clinical work with Script

Friday 1 May 2026
Script is one of the core models in TA psychotherapy, and has been very well developed since its initial conception by Berne in the 1960s. As it’s been developed it has become both more detailed and more complex to work with at times, often it can feel like there is a never-ending list of script theories, and it can be hard to know how to apply this practically in our work. In this one-day training course we will look to develop a clear narrative of what script means, from formation, to considering many of the ways it can present in clinical work, and practically how we can use some of the ideas of script to help our clients. We will consider some of the main TA models of script, using many of these as assessment frameworks as well as intervention tools to support our clients through the lens of script. This will be an online course running from 9:30am until 5pm on the 1st of May. This course is aimed at trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists, and costs £90.

Neuroscience and TA

Friday 29 May 2026
Neuroscience has experienced some rapid advances in the last few decades which has fundamentally reshaped how we understand the brain, the body, and human behaviour. For therapists, neuroscience can be an important lens to consider, at times crystallising and giving language to what we already know works in practice, at other times highlighting limitations, or areas where our models may need refining. In this one-day training course we will explore how some of our TA models can be understood through the lens of neuroscience, and what we can practically learn from neuroscience that can help us be more effective therapists. This will be an online course running from 9:30am until 5pm on the 29th of May. This course is aimed at trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists, and costs £90.

Unconscious Parenting

Friday 26 June 2026
The parental task is complicated, regardless of if it’s our child, others, or ourselves that we are seeking to parent. What often ends up happening then is much of the parental task gets pushed into our unconscious process, this can become problematic if our own experience or our clients’ experience within the parental process (usually how they were parented) has any challenges, such as abuse, trauma, unhelpful scripting. In this one-day training course we will explore how these unhelpful patterns can be formed, through societal parenting, unconscious shame, and relational patterns. We will go on to consider how we might spot, and practically engage with these both for ourselves as well as for our clients. This will be an online course running from 9:30am until 5pm on the 26th of June. This course is aimed at trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists, and costs £90.

TA and Trauma

Friday 10 July 2026
Trauma can be complex and is common in clinical work, and although it has been well researched in many fields, there isn’t much writing within TA around how we might understand, or engage with our clients who have experienced trauma. This one-day training course will explore some core TA models and how we can use these to effectively spot and develop some understanding of a client’s trauma; as well as practically how to support a client who has experienced trauma using a TA lens. This will be an online course running from 9:30am until 5pm on the 10th of July. This course is aimed at trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists, and costs £90.
