Langtoun Jazz presents Jack Pearce Quintet
Friday 9 October 2026
Langtoun Jazz are delighted to welcome back young saxophonist Jack Pearce and The Jack Pearce Quintet following their first visit in 2025
Jack started out busking on the streets of his hometown in 2017 and took quickly to the saxophone.
Now a graduate of Leeds Conservatoire (2021-2024), where he studied jazz saxophone, Jack is rapidly building a reputation as a dynamic, exciting sax player.
Drawing heavily on the influence of hard and post-bop players, while also infused with a strong sense of the rock music he grew up on, Jack effortlessly blends genres, creating a unique style that escapes the confines of conventional jazz.
The Quintet represents Jack's latest venture in music, showcasing his original compositions that pay homage to jazz traditions while injecting a fresh, inventive spirit.
A band of Leeds Conservatoire Alumni, the Jack Pearce Quintet focuses on a fusion of melodic and technical excellence. Drawing influence from Post-bop and 90s New York Swing, the original compositions have a uniquely open and interactive approach. The bands strength is particularly apparent in a live setting where countless hours have been dedicated to every facet of the music, then refined on the stage, culminating in an exciting musical experience.
Strong rhythms underpin vibrant, playful melodies creating a fusion complimentary to both traditional and modern jazz.

Review
“The best music I saw might have been Martin Kershaw and Colin Steele playing 50s bebop at the Jazz Bar, which I wasn’t expecting, but it made me hear that music as a living organism rather than a museum piece.” Stewart Lee

Their aims are to capture the raw energy and excitement of the early jazz recordings, to find and revive lesser-heard songs and cultivate their own interpretations of these, all in order to captivate experienced jazzers, dancing persons, and uninitiated ears alike.
In their brief existence so far they have performed at Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow Jazz Festivals, collaborated with various musicians via their own Cellar Session residency, and performed their own hit show on the Edinburgh Fringe telling the story of the ‘Red Hot Roots of Jazz’ from turn of the century New Orleans and beyond.

Langtoun Jazz presents Graeme Wilson's Monsterosa Quintet
Friday 11 October 2024
Monsterosa emerged from a lockdown project to write new songs and instrumentals for five jazz musicians based on Italo Calvino's Marcovaldo collection. The stories follow a man trying to recapture country life in an urban setting, and the music follows the joy in each moment of possibility he finds: for sleeping outdoors, or gathering firewood, or eating well. The melodies are rooted in jazz, taking in the band’s wider love for soul, folk, and latin music, and played with the verve and precision of some of the UK’s leading performers.
Rebecca Hollweg - vocals
Graeme Wilson - woodwinds
Ross Milligan - guitars
Andy Hamill - double bass & harmonicas
