Helensburgh Oratorio Choir is a leisure time auditioned mixed voice choir who have been singing classical music for over 60 years. Scotland registered Charity SC003942. They usually perform 2 major concerts per year ( winter and spring) with additional concerts as requested.

Songs Across the World

Helensburgh Oratorio Choir together with the One World Singers from Denver Colorado, will provide an unforgettable evening recital as One World Singers present a vibrant choral concert featuring beloved American folk melodies, the timeless jazz of George Gershwin, the poetic pop of Paul Simon, and stirring selections from the classical repertoire. Accompanied by piano, this dynamic program captures the rich tapestry of American musical expression—from soulful harmonies to toe-tapping rhythms. Nick Newman is a dynamic conductor and educator with a passion for building community through music. Helensburgh Oratorio depart from their traditional repertoire to encompass, works by Robert Burns, Scottish composers Hamish MacCunn and James McMillan; Charles V Stanford – an Anglo-Irish composer; to America’s Aaron Copland and 2 modern composers Sarah Quartel and Reena Esmail. There will be refreshments post concert. This is a free event, but space will be limited, booking recommended.

Carmina Burana ; Arion and the Dolphin - SOLD OUT

5 years after this concert was postponed due to Covid, Helensburgh Oratorio Choir brings you Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and the companion piece Jonathan Dove's Arion and the Dolphin. Set with 2 pianos (pianists Duncan Williams and Stephen Adam) and percussion plus we will be joined by children's choir from Hermitage Primary School. Soloists are Anna Marmion (Soprano); Wiktoria Wizner (Mezzo) and David Walsh (Tenor) all ably led by our Conductor Susannah Wapshott. Don't miss this exciting concert with a premiere of Arion and the Dolphin in Helensburgh. This event is Sold Out, there may be a few returns at the door.

Mozart Requiem & Bruckner Te Deum

Helensburgh Oratorio Choir present their winter concert on Sunday 17th November, with a firm favourite in Mozart Requiem together with Bruckner's Te Deum. We will be led by our MD Susannah Wapshott and accompanied by Derek Clark on the organ in Helensburgh Parish Church. Our soloists are Monica Toll (Soprano), Sarah Shorter (Mezzo soprano), David Walsh (tenor), Tim Edmundson (Bass) ONLINE BOOKING CLOSES AT 12:30. Tickets will be available at door.

Come and Sing Operatorio

Learning
Join with us and our Musical Director Susannah Wapshott (Chorus Director, Scottish Opera) to learn and sing favourite Opera Choruses. Learn the choruses during the day and give a performance in aid of charity with professional soloist in church at 16:30. Start time is 10:30 (registration from 10:15). Concert finishes at 17:00. Tea / Coffee and cake provided, please bring your own lunch and water.
