Sew Resourceful - Basic Hand Sewing Skills

Saturday 8 November 2025
Can't thread a needle or sew on a button? Then this course is for you! We'll share basic hand sewing skills and help you to build confidence to tackle minor repairs and small hand sewing tasks. You'll also use Scrapstore resources and your new found abilities to create your own sewing kit and leave with a handy guide to basic sewing and mending skills. Worried you aren't good enough at sewing? Don't be! That is the whole point of these sessions - it's aimed at complete beginners and we will help you every step of the way, with no judgement. We will split the day into two sessions with a 30 minute break in between - please bring your own lunch! (There will be hot drinks and biscuits available.) We will not be using a sewing machine in these sessions - please see our other workshops in this series if that's a skill you want to develop. Thanks to funding from the West Sussex Waste Prevention Community Fund Grant, we are able to offer these sessions entirely free of charge.

Sew Resourceful - Reusable Gift Bag using a Sewing Machine

Thursday 13 November 2025
At the Scrapstore we are all about reusing and repurposing unwanted items, including textiles. There is so much lovely fabric in the world, some of it just needs to be looked at again and used in a different way. In this session we'll be using donated fabric and giving it a second life as a useful drawstring gift bag, which you can use over and over again - perfect for this festive season and beyond! We'll guide you through every step of the process and you'll go away with detailed instructions so you can make more. We'll be using donated sewing machines and we don't mind if your sewing skills are a bit rusty - this is a straightforward make. What's more, thanks to funding from the West Sussex Waste Prevention Community Fund Grant, we are able to offer this session entirely free of charge.

We'll provide all the materials and tools you need, and we'll give you hot drinks and biscuits to sustain you while you craft. £15 for non-members and £12.50 for members (you'll need your membership number to book the reduced rate.) This session is aimed at adults and accompanied older children (14+) - the needles are very sharp! Please email if you have any questions.

Slow Stitching - November 2025

Monday 17 November 2025
Slow Stitching is hand sewing that involves using bits and pieces of fabric, ribbon, lace, buttons, beads, trims and more to create fabulous pieces of fabric art. The idea is to slow down. Breathe. Create. There are no rules, no right or wrong way. No patterns, no instructions and no judgement. And the best bit? It doesn't have to be perfect! In fact, it's even better if it isn't. Imperfections add character! We will provide tea, coffee and biscuits and you will have access to all of the wonderful Scrapstore supplies to inspire you. £3 for members and £5 for non members, places are limited so make sure to book your spot.

Crochet Club - December 2025

Thursday 4 December 2025
At Resourceful Crochet Club this month we will be making Christmas Decorations, with two choices of patterns - or you are welcome to bring your own project along. For those starting out or not quite ready for amigurumi, we have a cute star pattern which you could then use as a decoration to hang on your tree or to attach to a present. If you're comfortable with working amigurumi-style, we have vintage Christmas lights - make one to hang on your tree, or make a whole set to join into a festive garland. We will provide tea, coffee and biscuits and we have plenty of yarn and crochet hooks if you need them. £3 for members and £5 for non members, places are limited so make sure to book your spot **Please note, although we all help each other out if we get stuck on a pattern or technique, this is not intended as a teaching session and is therefore not suitable for those who haven't crocheted before.**

Community Crafting - December 2025

Saturday 6 December 2025
Join us for the latest session of our Community Crafting Group - where we get together and use our crafting skills to make things for others. We have had a massive donation of small knitted squares and we want to harness the power of the Resourceful Community to turn them into something useful - baby blankets for local baby bank Little Bundles, who provide essential items for families in need across Arun and Chichester. It's not the most exciting task, but with good company (and biscuits) hopefully we can create something beautiful from materials that would otherwise have ended up in landfill. This session is free to attend, partly due to funding from the WSCC Waste Prevention Grant Fund. But please do book a space so we know how many people to expect.

Community Crafting - November 2025

Saturday 1 November 2025
Join us for the latest session of our Community Crafting Group - where we get together and use our crafting skills to make things for others. This month we will be making tote bags for local women's centre My Sisters' House. They use these bags to give out donated toiletries to the women they support - it's a simple thing but one which offers so much more than a few bottles of shampoo etc. It's about comfort and dignity - and knowing that someone cares. We have all the resources required to make the bags, we just need the people - come along and lend a hand! You can cut out the fabric, do some machine sewing, press the seams, write and attach the labels, or make sure everyone is supplied with tea and coffee - there is a job for everyone. This session is free to attend, partly due to funding from the WSCC Waste Prevention Grant Fund. But please do book a space so we know how many people to expect.
