Year 11 Geography Fieldtrip to Liverpool One

Tuesday 11 November 2025
As part of our ongoing preparation for the AQA GCSE Geography Paper 3 examination we will be taking all Year 11 Geography students to Liverpool One on Tuesday 11th November 2025. The purpose of this day is to give students the opportunity to conduct fieldwork methods based on a Human Geography enquiry. Fieldtrips are a compulsory element (minimum of 2 days) in the specification and are directly examined, with questions on skills, risks involved, data collected, and the whole fieldwork process. On the day itself, we will be leaving school at 08:45 and travel by school minibus to Liverpool city centre. Here we will be collecting information through questionnaires with members of the public, recording land use, conducting pedestrian counts and collating information about the environmental quality within the Liverpool One site. We will return to school in time for students to meet the buses at the end of the day. The cost of the day is £5:00, which will cover the cost of travel to and from Liverpool, staff cover and insurance. Students will need a packed lunch on the day, which can be provided by the school canteen, or they may prefer to bring a small amount of money so that they can purchase lunch in Liverpool.

It is worth noting at this point that young people have until their 24th birthday to complete their Gold award. I have included a copy of the details of the sections below:

Y12 A-Level Geography Trip to Buttermere 2025

Monday 23 June 2025
In order to fulfil the requirements of the A-level Geography course we are delighted to run three days of fieldwork with a residential stay in the Lake District next half-term. Such fieldwork is vital in allowing students to gain the necessary skills they will need for undertaking their own Non-Examined Assessment (NEA) which is based on a unit of study chosen by a student from within the examination specification. Students are expected to then carry out their own fieldwork individually and then write up their findings usually over the summer holidays when they can collect extra data or comparative data from other locations. This NEA of around 4,000 to 5,000 words then accounts for 20% of the overall A-level mark and is often a real opportunity for students to lay down a firm foundation for the examination, writing about something which interests them.

Y9 GCSE Geography Field Trip to Blackpool Zoo

Friday 21 March 2025
I am delighted to offer details of a forthcoming trip to Blackpool Zoo for Year 9 GCSE Geography students. The trip will be directly relevant to our Living World topic which students are currently studying in lessons. In this unit we cover the areas such as Ecosystems, Tropical Rainforests and Cold Environments. Within these topics we look in detail at plant and animal adaptations in each and conservation methods undertaken in a rainforest environment. During our trip the education department will offer a workshop discussing rainforest adaptations and conservation methods in response to deforestation in Borneo. Students will then have plenty of time to walk around the zoo to see these animal adaptations first hand. The expert speakers, as well as discussing case studies in detailed lessons, will embed and review key parts of the GCSE specification, giving students real-world insights that they can turn into greater knowledge and apply in examinations.

On the evening of Thursday 6th February there is a concert at the CO-OP Arena in Manchester called ‘Young Voices’. We are delighted to be able to give the children who will be in Year 2 and Year 3 the opportunity to take part in this event. Young Voices brings thousands of children and teachers together at the UK’s biggest School Choir Concerts. If you would like more information about the event, please go to www.youngvoices.co.uk. In preparation for this event, we will be holding a weekly afterschool Choir club on a Wednesday, between 4 and 5pm, to learn all the songs. If your child would like to attend the event they will need to commit to attending the weekly sessions. This is in line with the event policies as you are not allowed to collect your child from the venue itself. Cost details to follow.
