Making Connections: Community Ideas to Reduce Isolation
About
Do you feel isolated? Is isolation something you see regularly in your community? Do you support people who struggle to connect, attend activities, or feel part of what’s happening locally? We’re excited to invite you to our very first Community Swop Shop Skill Share, taking place in the West End of Morecambe. Building on our established Swop Shop Skill Share model, this event brings together not only voluntary sector organisations but also local residents, community groups, and anyone interested in sharing ideas, experience, and practical knowledge.
Theme: Tackling Isolation
Isolation affects people in many different ways and for many different reasons. This session will explore:
- Your lived experiences of isolation
- Strategies that reduce isolation for specific groups or individuals
- Activities, ideas, and approaches that encourage people to take part in community opportunities
- Ways of engaging people or groups often considered “hard to reach”
- Examples of what has worked well — and what hasn’t — in your organisation, neighbourhood, or lived experience
Just like all our Skill Share sessions, this isn’t a formal training event — it’s a space for conversations, sharing ideas and learning.
Who Should Attend?
- Local residents
- Community organisations, voluntary sector groups, social groups, local businesses with social value interest
- Anyone with insight, experience, or interest in reducing isolation and strengthening community connection
What to Expect?
A welcoming, session where everyone is encouraged to share (if they wish to), listen, learn, and build connections. You don’t need to bring anything other than your experiences and ideas. The session will start socially, with a light evening meal (soup and bread roll) and the opportunity to chat.
Hosted by West End Impact, the session will start with an overview of the activity they provide, before we break into topic-based table discussions
We look forward to seeing you there and working together to build a more connected community.
Best wishes,
Sharon, Connecting Communities Development Support Officer, LDCVS
