EarlyBird in Surrey (SOLD OUT)
About
A support programme for parents and carers of children and young people, under the age of 6 with autism or suspected autism
The core Earlybird programme is delivered over six 2.5 hour sessions which include:
• Understanding autism – including key areas of difference, individual profiles, processing differences and one-page profiles
• Communication – including autistic communication styles, supporting communication and using visuals
• Understanding autistic experiences – including sensory processing and talking to your child about their autistic identity
• Supporting daily living – including the low arousal approach, sleep, eating, toileting/hygiene and dressing
• Health and wellbeing – including self-esteem, stress and anxiety and understanding feelings
• Connections – including working with professionals, family dynamics, siblings and education/reasonable adjustments
Parents of autisitc children face the usual positives and challenges of parenting and quite a few more. Attending an EarlyBird autism support programme gives parents and carers an opportunity to develop their understanding of autism and consider ways to support their child. It also provides the opportunity to meet other people in a similar postition and hear about their experiences in an informal but supportive atmosphere.
Who can attend EarlyBird sessions?
Parents, carers or other family members who have responsibility for your child. Your child needs to be under the age of 6 and live in Surrey. They may have a diagnosis of autism or be waiting for one. Please book a place for each person attending.
Fees
We are charging £50 per family to attend the 6 week programme, which includes the cost of the course workbooks. If you are not in a financial position to pay for this please get in touch to discuss further.
Who will deliver my EarlyBird course?
Surrey's EarlyBird course offer is coordinated through the Autism Outreach team based at Freemantles School, but the team of trainers is made up from professionals working across Surrey in education, health and charity organisations.
