Free Masterclasses for students led by the amazing teachers from Bootham School. Choose from a variety of interesting workshops and classes.

You are welcome to arrive from 16:15 and enjoy refreshments and treats in the hall. The workshops will start at 16:30 and end at 18:00. Children will then be collected from the hall at the end of their workshop.

Whilst students are doing the masterclasses, parents can stay on site and enjoy refreshments, have a tour of the Junior School or head off into York. There is parking on site at Bootham Junior School.

Map Your Own Island Paradise

This workshop invites you to unleash your creativity and design your very own island world. You’ll explore dramatic landscapes like volcanoes, glaciers, rainforests and deserts, learning how science and geography shape them. As you craft your island map, you’ll experiment with erupting volcano models, fossil imprints, rock samples and sparkling salt crystals. By the end, you’ll take home a colourful creation bursting with imagination, discovery and originality.

Codebreaking

Learn how to read secret messages and create your own. We will make code to hide in pictures, use tools that actual spies used and finally put all our skills together to break into a safe stuffed full of sweets! 

Microcontrollers with micro: bits 

Use micro: bits to see how life can be controlled and sensed. Create your own biscuit tin alarm so that no one can pinch your biscuits! 

Printmaking from Nature 

Explore nature through art, creating prints using leaves, textures, and found materials. Discover patterns, symmetry, and design while connecting with the environment. We will use natural dyes and leaf pounding to create beautiful art to take home. 

An Introduction to Laser Shooting 

Fancy a chance at exploring a new sport. Have you wanted to test your hand eye coordination to the max, then this is the workshop for you. Come to this laser shooting trial run by 2 international athletes where you will learn how to use a pistol and aim at the target. Your limits will be tested by a range of different skills and drills however the main objective will be to have fun.   

Pizza Party 

In this fun, hands on class, children will become mini chefs as they design and create their very own pizzas! They’ll explore different ingredients, learn how to make healthy choices, and use their creativity to plan a delicious pizza masterpiece. From shaping the dough to adding toppings, pupils will enjoy every step of the cooking process before proudly taking home their tasty creation. 

Cricket Masterclass

A workshop focused on advanced fielding, bowling and batting skills.
