Speak Low
About
Southside Chamber Music presents ‘Speak Low’ - a music drama bringing to life the extraordinary relationship of Kurt Weill and Lotte Lenya. Set against the collapse of Weimar Germany, the rise of facism, and the couple's reinvention in America, this music drama traces the intertwined lives of composer Kurt Weill and singer Lotte Lenya. Their songs, at once seductive, biting, tender and defiant, gave voice to outsiders, dreamers, and rebels at a moment when art itself was under threat. 'Speak Low’ is the first event in the series.Southside Chamber Music presents high quality chamber performances to the Southside community. This series will bring some of Scotland’s most acclaimed musicians and, through association with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, will showcase emerging artists of the next generation. The concerts will be full of variety, offering a mix of styles and genres, and breaking down barriers between art forms. They bridges the generations, presenting both established Scottish artists and emerging young musicians and link each performance to a related workshop for local schoolchildren.
There are four events taking place across the year. To learn more or see all upcoming events in the series, visit www.chamberreach.co.uk.
