Preparing for spring - Freeman's Wood
About
As the days lengthen and we approach March, how is our wildlife responding to environmental changes? We will be looking for signs of growth and listening for early bird song as nature gears up for the warmer days.
Taking our time, as always, to look and listen, this will be a mindful exploration of the natural world.
About Freeman's Wood:
Freeman's Wood is a Town Green, situated close to the river Lune on the edge of Lune Industrial Estate. It was purchased in April 2023, in trust for the local community, following amazing fundraising efforts by The Friends of Freeman's Wood. The woodlands and grasslands that it encompasses are incredibly important for resident and migratory bird species, and boasts a surprisingly diverse flora, especially considering that much of the site is on the old lino factory site, complete with dumped waste and heavy metals! It's amazing how nature still finds a way and this wonderful little place to visit.
