GCSE Booster Revision programme at Downside - Chemistry

Starting February 23rd Downside School warmly invites pupils for additional GCSE tuition to students in the local community. Whether you need a confidence boost or extra exam practice, our experienced teachers are here to help. Sessions run Monday - Thursday 17.10-18.10 in English, Chemistry, Spanish, French, Physics, Mathematics. (Minimum of 3 pupils required for classes to run)This GCSE Chemistry Booster course is led by Mr. P Hunt, a highly experienced Chemistry specialist with over 20 years of teaching experience, alongside a professional background as an environmental and analytical chemist working for several major UK companies.
During his teaching career, Mr. Hunt has held a number of senior leadership roles, including Head of Chemistry, Head of Science, and Head of Faculty, giving him a strong overview of curriculum planning, progression, and examination preparation.
He has taught GCSE and A Level Chemistry across all major exam boards, including OCR, AQA, and Edexcel, and has also worked as an AQA GCSE examination marker. This examiner insight allows him to focus teaching precisely on what examiners are looking for, common misconceptions, and how students can maximise marks.
The evening sessions will focus on consolidating key GCSE Chemistry topics, including:
- Ion formation, ionic bonding and covalent bonding, and the properties of each
- Electrolysis, including redox half equations and products at each electrode
- Rates of reaction
-Energy changes in chemical reactions and associated calculations
- Organic chemistry
The sessions are designed to be clear, structured, and exam-focused, helping students strengthen their understanding, improve confidence, and approach their Chemistry examinations with greater assurance.
