GCSE Booster Revision programme at Downside - French

Starting February 23rd Downside School warmly invites pupils for additional GCSE tuition to students in the local community. Whether you need a confidence boost or extra exam practice, our experienced teachers are here to help. Sessions run Monday - Thursday 17.10-18.10 in English, Chemistry, Spanish, French, Physics, Mathematics. (Minimum of 3 pupils required for classes to run).This GCSE French Booster course is led by Mr R Rawlins, Deputy Head (Academic) at Downside School, and an exceptionally experienced languages specialist with over 30 years’ experience teaching GCSE and A Level languages.
Mr Rawlins was Head of Languages for over 25 years and is a graduate of the University of Cambridge, where he studied Modern Languages at Gonville and Caius College. He holds a Master of Arts degree from the university.
He teaches French and German, following the AQA GCSE specification, and brings extensive examiner expertise to his teaching. Mr Rawlins has many years’ experience examining for AQA, most recently serving as a Senior Examiner for A Level French writing. This provides students with invaluable insight into assessment criteria, examiner expectations, and how to structure high-scoring responses.
The sessions will focus on developing strong linguistic accuracy, confident communication, and effective exam technique across the key GCSE skills. Teaching is precise, supportive, and firmly aligned with exam requirements, helping students to refine their performance and approach their French examinations with confidence and clarity.
