How To Live Like A Stoic: A Talk with Tom Hodgkinson
About
Join author and editor Tom Hodgkinson at Special Rider Books, Shepherds Bush Market, for an evening of Stoic philosophy, practical wisdom and gentle rebellion against modern stress.Drawing on the ideas of Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, and Epictetus — Hodgkinson will explore how Stoicism can help us stay calm, free and amused in an anxious, over-stimulated world.
The talk is based on Tom’s new book, How to Live Like a Stoic: A Handbook for Happiness, published in Febuary this year.
There will also be live music. Tom’s band, The Loafers, will perform a short set of Stoic-themed songs (including Always Look on the Bright Side of Life and others).
The evening will conclude with audience questions, existential or otherwise.
Tom Hodgkinson is editor of The Idler magazine and the author of How to Be Idle, How to Be Free, The Idle Parent, Brave Old World, The Ukulele Handbook and Business for Bohemians. In 2008, he and his partner Victoria founded the Idler Academy of Philosophy, Husbandry and Merriment.
