Who We Are
Making a Difference for Youth
At 1Compass, we believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to lead a successful and fulfilling life. We are a dedicated team of professionals passionate about empowering youth and supporting them in their journey towards a better future. Through our comprehensive programs and services, we aim to equip young individuals with the necessary skills, resources, and support to overcome challenges, build resilience, and achieve their goals.
1Compass is situated in the east area of Conwy County Borough Council and serves an area which includes the coastal strip from Kinmel Bay through Towyn, Abergele, Colwyn Bay, Old Colwyn, Llysfaen, Rhos-on-Sea and Llandudno. According to the Welsh Index for Multiple Deprivation this area includes seven of the most deprived wards in Wales.
The work of 1Compass has operated in the community facility known as Tan Lan Community Centre, as part of Home-Start Conwy since the beginning of 2022. We began by offering multiple Youth Groups aimed at those aged 8-11 years and 12-16 years that are, or at risk of becoming, excluded from mainstream social, economic, educational and digital opportunities. It is acknowledged locally as having a significant effect on the community contributing to the much-needed regeneration of the area that it serves.
1Compass embraces the vision of the local government to reduce the level of youth unemployment to below the UK average and increase economic activity of people currently outside the labour market. 1Compass is committed to working with the local community to launch life-changing, sustainable, youth led projects by engaging the community in providing additional support to local people who are without access to this for various reasons. We uphold common values of compassion, justice, dignity, and community with the strategic goal of reducing the number of young people that are not in education, employment, or training. 1Compass aims to serve youth in crisis for as long as we are needed.
As part of Home-Start Conwy, 1Compass has focused on three core youth groups: Quiet 1s (special invitation only), Little 1s (open invitation 8-11 years) and Big 1s (open invitation 12-16 years). The Foodbank operates in Tan Lan Community Centre, as part of Home-Start Conwy. 1 Compass is located close to both a primary and secondary school in Old Colwyn.
1Compass has developed the skills, expertise and resources to successfully deliver the three youth groups and are furthering our services into one-on-one interventions and a youth council. There is no doubt that, with quality of service and sound management this will continue to have an impact on the local community. By meeting the demands of social and economic inclusion as well as providing people with support and encouragement to enable independence, improved physical and emotional wellbeing, young people will learn to become more adapt to being taught in mainstream classes.
