Introduction to Thematic Analysis
About
The Thematic Analysis training is part of the training series delivered by the Bradford Centre for Qualitative Research (BCQR). This session, which is to be delivered by our colleagues from the Improvement Academy, Dr Vishal Sharma and Dr Alice Cunningham, is designed for researchers who want to develop practical skills in analysing qualitative data using thematic analysis.Thematic analysis is one of the most widely used approaches in qualitative health research, and qualitative research more broadly. The training will provide a step-by-step introduction to the principles and processes of thematic analysis, including familiarisation with data, coding, developing and reviewing themes, and producing a coherent analytic narrative.
We will explore different approaches to thematic analysis and discuss how epistemological positioning shapes analytic decisions.
Participants will gain insight into the strategies for generating meaningful codes and how to move from codes to theme generation.
The session will also address issues of rigour and reflexivity in thematic analysis, alongside practical tips for writing up thematic findings in qualitative health research.
This event is suitable for both early-career and more advanced qualitative researchers, including members of the wider Bradford research community and colleagues seeking to strengthen their qualitative analysis skills.
