Sight Advice South Lakes Chapel Island Walk 2026
About
Join Sight Advice South Lakes on Saturday 22nd August for the Stunning Chapel Island Walk. We’re thrilled to invite you, our members, supporters, volunteers and friends, to an unforgettable summer experience: a guided walk across the sands of Morecambe Bay to Chapel Island this August.
This truly unique adventure takes you across tidal sands and through part of the beautiful Leven Estuary under the expert guidance of a royally-appointed Guide to the Sands, someone who knows these shifting sands and hidden waters like the back of their hand.
Why this walk is special:
• Breathtaking scenery — sweeping views across Morecambe Bay, open skies and distant fells.
• Natural wonder — see wildlife and coastal features you won’t get to from any ordinary footpath.
• A real sense of achievement — experience crossing tidal sands and river channels safely with an experienced guide.
• Perfect for community — bring family, friends and make new ones as you walk together for a great cause.
The route from Canal Foot near Ulverston out onto the Bay and towards Chapel Island and back is a beautiful and truly memorable way to spend a summer’s day. The experience usually takes a few hours, and while the terrain is natural and uneven in places, it’s suitable for walkers of most fitness levels.
Together, we’ll enjoy, the magic of Morecambe Bay, expert guidance so everyone feels safe and supported, a chance to connect with nature, friends and fellow Sight Advice South Lakes community, engaging all your senses and a sense of shared adventure with old friends and new.
Whether you’re a regular walker or trying something new, this event is a perfect way to celebrate the summer, challenge yourself a little, and enjoy the outdoors with others who support sight loss and raise some money for a good cause.
