Heavenly Voices: Mighty Sound" Our Organ Restoration Project
About
"Heavenly Voices: Mighty Sound”.This is an ambitious campaign to fully restore our organ which dates back to 1856 and is one of the earliest by Henry Willis. It was pioneering in both sound and design and helped shaped the future of organ design nationally. This has ensured that Carlisle Cathedral has been central to music making of the highest standard for the last 170 years. As part of Cathedral’s vision 2026-2030, we are committed to establishing our cathedral at the heart of the region’s musical and cultural landscape. The organ is central to this work.
Ensuring a full restoration at this time will enable the Cathedral to strengthen its music in worship, outreach, and concerts. Every year thousands hear the organ, as well as share in singing with it.
The cost of the project is £2.4million, and I am delighted to share that we have already secured £1.8million, which is 75% of what is required.
We now warmly invite you to join us for the launch of our campaign to raise the remaining £600k, on Sunday 22nd March 2026 at 12 noon, immediately following the 10:30am Service.
Please note there will be no parking available on site.
