Scent Memory of China: Oriental Scent Studio
About
Join us for a unique cultural workshop celebrating the traditional Chinese craft of Xiang Nang (scented sachets). Originating over a thousand years ago, sachets were once worn during festivals such as the Dragon Boat Festival and carried daily as symbols of protection, wellness, and good fortune. In ancient China, people believed that carefully blended herbs and flowers could purify the air, ward off illness, and bring balance to the body and mind. These delicate handmade pouches, filled with natural botanicals and spices, were not only practical objects but also meaningful expressions of cultural identity. Passed down through generations, they carry stories of family traditions, seasonal rituals, and sensory memory.
During this interactive session, participants will:
Discover the fascinating history and symbolism of Chinese scented sachets
Take part in engaging team activities
Design and create their own personalised sachet to take home
Write Chinese-style postcards inspired by traditional aesthetics
Enjoy traditional Chinese snacks
This workshop offers a relaxing and creative space to connect with heritage through scent, storytelling, and hands-on making. No prior experience is needed — just bring your curiosity and creativity.
🌿 Allergy Notice: Some of the spices are natural herbs (dried flowers, and plant-based spices). We do provide other types of spices, if you have allergies to botanical ingredients, please let us know and participate with caution.
