Choral Concert 2026
About
You are warmly invited to our Choral Concert on Thursday 23 April in the Price Hall at 7pm.The first half of the concert will showcase three of our school choirs; the Close Harmony Group, Junior Choir and the Senior Chamber Choir. They will perform a wide variety of music, from 16th century Italian polyphony to a recently-composed Wicked medley.
The Concert will culminate in a performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria sung by our Senior Choir. We will welcome a professional orchestra into school to accompany the choir in addition to two established professional classical singers, one of which is Ruby Hendry, Old Bradfordian.
Vivaldi's Gloria in D major (RV 589) is a 12-movement Baroque choral work composed around 1715 for the Ospedale della Pietà orphanage in Venice. The Ospedale prided itself on the quality of its musical education and the excellence of its choir and orchestra.
Vivaldi, a priest, music teacher and virtuoso violinist, composed many sacred works for the Ospedale, where he spent most of his career, as well as hundreds of instrumental concertos to be played by the girls’ orchestra. This, his most famous choral piece, presents the traditional Gloria from the Latin Mass in twelve varied cantata-like sections.
The wonderfully sunny nature of the Gloria, with its distinctive melodies and rhythms, is characteristic of all of Vivaldi’s music, giving it an immediate and universal appeal.
