Please join us at Special Rider for an evening with two of the most distinctive voices in contemporary writing, David Keenan and Michael Smith, in conversation with the memoirist and novelist Ali Millar.David Keenan, the acclaimed author of This is Memorial Device, will be discussing his new book, Boyhood, which tells the story of Aaron, a boy on the cusp of manhood and greatness. It’s a love letter to Glasgow, family and artists. It’s a future classic by a modern writer at the top of his game.
Michael Smith, author of cult classic The Giro Playboy, will discuss his extraordinary new book Strangers On The Shore. Set in the strange psychic landscape of Hastings, this darkly funny and deeply moving work of autofiction explores fatherhood, fading youth and life on the margins in a Britain drifting uneasily into dystopia.
Together they’ll discuss their new work and the ways in which place, memory and subculture inform their stories.
The conversation will be hosted by the writer Ali Millar.
