FHASS and MARS Collaboration Exploration Event (CANCELLED)
About
The MARS (Mathematics for AI in Real-world Systems) is a £22m E3 funded project aiming to combine applied mathematics with cutting-edge AI methods. We will develop effective, reliable and trustworthy solutions that have positive economic, environmental and societal impact. This informal workshop aims to strengthen connections between colleagues in MARS and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and to build foundations for ambitious transdisciplinary funding bids.
MARS is not focused on simply implementing existing ‘AI’ tools. Our work centres on innovating the mathematics that underpins next-generation AI systems. We are developing AI methodologies that are fundamentally trustworthy, transparent and robust, advancing the theoretical foundations as well as practical capability.
Through this session, we want to explore how these methodological advances can engage meaningfully with real-world challenges, use cases and applications emerging from FHASS research. Equally, we aim to connect FHASS colleagues more closely with MARS and the Data Science and AI Institute, identifying areas where new collaborations could unlock novel research questions and competitive funding opportunities.
The session will include short lightning talks from FHASS and MARS colleagues, followed by structured discussion designed to surface shared priorities and ambitions.
