Westmorland and Furness Council, in partnership with WSP, HemingwayDesign, and BE Group, is leading an exciting project to revitalise Kendal’s Market Place and its surrounding streets.
This is a unique opportunity to re-establish Market Place as the vibrant social, cultural, and commercial heart of Kendal, while enhancing strong connections to Kent Street, Stramongate, Stricklandgate, Highgate, and Finkle Street.
The ambition is to spark long-term vitality in the town centre - strengthening local identity, supporting cultural activities and traders, and creating welcoming, accessible spaces that encourage social interaction, play, and celebration.
We’re kicking off the project with a series of creative workshops to explore how you experience the town centre today and to give you the opportunity to share with the design team what’s working well, what could be improved, and your ideas for change.
These discussions will help shape initial concept designs for the heart of the town centre that celebrates what makes your town unique. Our design team will use your feedback and ideas to ensure designs that are aspirational, fit for purpose, and meaningful to all users.
We hope you can join us to share your valued thoughts and insights to help design a sustainable, adaptable, and future-ready public realm for Kendal town centre.
