Gordon Munro - A taste of fungi (CANCELLED)
About
Gordon Munro - A taste of fungiGordon Munro grew up in Kirkoswald, South Ayrshire before attending Strathclyde University in Glasgow to study biochemistry. He then enjoyed six years in the hospitality industry, four of which were spent running the Dunure Inn with his mother, putting on music nights and working as a musician.
After finding a mushroom the size of a frying pan one day at the local church, he was curious, and developed an appetite for foraging. He undertook extensive research into fungi which led to him selling locally sourced mushrooms for the next five years before setting up Fungi Organic Ltd in January 2021, selling mushroom growing kits online.
Gordon currently provides locally foraged, seasonal mushrooms to Souter’s Inn, The Kirkmichael Arms, and Pizzaioli in Ayr and hopes this list of hostelries will soon expand. In the meantime, his planned foraging tours should keep him busy, running a four-hour foraging experience with a wee cook-up at the end.
Gordon warns that, with foraging, you really need to know what you are doing and he would advise novice foragers to think twice before picking (and eating) anything in the wild, without being 100% sure of what it is.
