Expert Hour: How one Lancaster woman saved millions of bird (SOLD OUT)
About
The next edition of our volunteer led series of talks – Expert Hour – is from RSPB worker Alasdair McKee.Lancaster-born Emily Williamson was one of the pioneers of both the conservation and feminist movements. Her protest against the cruelty of the plumage trade, the killing of birds to decorate Victorian hats, saved over 60 species from extinction. The all-women society she founded in 1889 grew to become the RSPB, the UK's largest conservation charity.
Join RSPB worker Alasdair McKee, in this talk about how one Lancaster woman saved millions of birds.... Alasdair organised the campaign that led to the unveiling of a plaque to Emily, the first plaque to a woman in Lancaster.
Expert Hour is our take on Ted Talks, tucked away in our Secret Cinema. Each one-hour talk is given by a member of your local community, discussing their niche and interesting specialism. 'Experts' are picked by our volunteer panel, which means every talk is guaranteed to be absolutely fascinating.
