John Linck - The long road to Glastonbury
About
John Linck was born and brought up in Cardiff. After school he went to University College in Cardiff to study civil engineering but dropped out after two years and subsequently started working for Cadbury Schweppes as a forklift driver, then a truck driver. Looking for a change, he bagged a job working as a truck driver and roadie for a trucking company that specialised in rock and roll. He was employed on a tour-by-tour basis, with artists like David Bowie and Deaf School.A job came up at the Welsh National Opera for a driver and orchestra assistant, and John worked for the WNO for a few years.
Having had enough of touring, he moved to North Wales, went back to University in Bangor and left with a degree in Philosophy and Economics, completing his teacher training a year later. He taught, mostly in Worcestershire, until he retired.
While working as a teacher in the late 90's and early naughties, John and his wife Joan built a boat, starting with the damaged, teak hull of a naval pinnace, and lived on it for a number of years on the River Severn in Worcestershire.
Then, liking the idea of warmer climes, they bought a smallholding in Spain and moved there after they retired. In 2020, with Brexit and ailing parents, and prompted by the pandemic, John and Joan moved to Girvan.
Music has always been a big part of John's life, and he regularly plays in sessions with the Folk and Music club in Girvan.
Just when life was quiet and settled, out of the
blue, John was asked to be a member of the crew for the Park zone at
Glastonbury, where he is now quartermaster for the area, which includes half a
dozen or more bars and venues, including the park stage.
It has been a long road to Glastonbury!
