Foraging for food and medicine offers a wealth of opportunities to connect with the wild side of nature.
Join this guided foraging walk around the green spaces between Lancaster Castle and the Quay, exploring both cultivated and self-seeded wild plants, to discover edible and medicinal treasures growing here.
Julia Russell is a practicing herbalist and lifelong forager. She aims to inspire and empower you to get outdoors, tap into the wisdom of the plant world, forage for plant material from which you can create tasty food and natural remedies to support your own health and well-being.
Session 1 - Sunday 7th June: 4.30-6.30pm
Session 2 - Friday 12th June: 6.30-8.30pm
- We start promptly, so please arrive at the location a few minutes before the start time.
- If you are running late, look for a group of people heading around the back of the castle towards the Priory.
- The walk on Sunday 7th June is suitable for adults and older children (11+). We have allocated 5 spaces for children.
- All children must be accompanied by their responsible adult at all times.
- There is a maximum of 2 children per adult.
Accessibility:
- This walk is not suitable for people in wheelchairs or mobility scooters, or with limited mobility.
What to wear:
- Sturdy footwear – this walk includes uneven ground and potentially slippery surfaces
- Weather-appropriate clothes, which may include a waterproof coat or a sun hat
What to bring along:
- A flask of hot water - we will make some herbal teas as we go along
- A bottle of water to ensure you stay hydrated
Parking and Meeting Point:
- Lancaster Castle, main gate on Castle Park.
- The what3words location for the meeting point is ///cove.after.labels
- There is limited parking around the castle.
- The nearest public car park is on Dallas Road, about 10 minutes walk away from the meeting point.
- You may prefer to walk, cycle or use public transport to get to the meeting point. Lancaster rail station is 2 minutes away, and the bus station is 10 minutes away.
Cancellation
We will only cancel the event in the case of extreme weather warning being issued by the Met Office. This is most likely to be wind-related.
We will not cancel in event of rainy or sunny weather.
