History Talks @The Minories: Jumbo
About
When you turn on the tap, have you ever wondered what life might have been like without a ready supply of water? If you were the wife of a manual worker, living in crowded Colchester in the mid 19th century, you would probably be making daily visits to the wells and cisterns around the town to fill your buckets with the precious water your family needed. Except it wasn’t always very clean water, resulting in disease, and even death in some cases. The solution took the form of a rather large water tower on Balkerne Hill... Jumbo. Glyn will tell the story – the ups and downs back then and the plans to restore our treasured City icon in the near future.Date
