Tanya Laing - Tango Stories
About
Tanya and Howard met on a dance floor in Newcastle upon Tyne over twenty years ago. They moved to Cumbria where they taught tango and travelled throughout the north of England, southwest Scotland, Europe and Buenos Aires. In February 2023, they moved to South Ayrshire and within three months they were dancing in their own studio with views of the spectacular countryside.Creative freedom, communication and connection is paramount in tango. Tanya and Howard have developed their own style of dance that uses the natural spirals of the body to improvise movements inspired by the music as it plays. Not even they know what is coming next.
Their pedagogy allows students to be immersed immediately in their philosophy of freedom of expression for both partners. They developed this style through exploration and experimentation in the Dinzel Studio, Buenos Aires.
After moving to Ayrshire, they were commissioned by LEAP Sports to teach in Irvine and have given demonstrations, classes and readings from Tanya’s debut novel El Adiós in the libraries and community halls of South Ayrshire. Tanya has also assisted contemporary dancers at CRAG Community Arts in Girvan. She sings with Girvan Community Choir while Howard plays chess in Barr.
