About

Sport Birmingham and The Active Wellbeing Society are delivering the EmpowerHER Festival between 11th and 26th April 2026.

This 90-minute webinar will introduce Coach Core Foundation and explore careers in coaching and community sport, with a focus on apprenticeships as a route into the sector that combine meaningful work experience with a recognised qualification.

The session is designed for both organisations interested in becoming apprenticeship employers, and young people, particularly young women, who would like to learn more about starting a career in the sector.

For employers, the webinar will highlight the opportunity to diversify and strengthen their workforce by recruiting young people who are relatable to the communities they serve, bringing fresh perspectives, energy and enthusiasm into their organisation. We will also outline the practical benefits of employing an apprentice, including the structured support provided by Coach Core throughout the programme, and the funding streams available to help make apprenticeships a cost-effective and sustainable workforce solution.

For young people, the session will provide a clear understanding of what an apprenticeship in coaching and community sport looks like, including the structure of the programme, the support you will receive throughout, and the skills and experience you will gain. We will explore the benefits of choosing an apprenticeship as a career pathway, combining paid employment with a recognised qualification, and how this can open doors to long-term opportunities within the sport and physical activity sector.

The most powerful part of the session will be hearing directly from current and former female apprentices, who will share their personal journeys, challenges and successes in the sector.

Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how to get involved, whether that’s employing an apprentice or starting their own career in coaching and community sport.
