An Investigation into the links between Cutlery/Metal-trades and the Music Hall.Specially devised for Portland Works, taking its base from Chris’s West Bar Music Hall tours. Music-hall was Entertainment for the People. Meet Tommy Youdan, former silversmith & music hall owner; Performance venues included pubs, theatres and the Cutler’s Hall. Expect tales of escapology, knife-grinding poets, burning theatres and Stainless Stephen.
Our speaker Chris Reece worked in Theatre for 35 years: 15 years in stage/production management and 20 as Theatre Manager at Sheffield Theatres. Following this he took an MSc at SHU in Environmental Management, producing a dissertation on Sustainable Events. This knowledge was used to good effect managing events at Sheffield Manor Lodge and as an associate lecturer at SHU. He served as chair at Walkley Library for 9 years and now splits his volunteering time between Heritage Open Days, events in Walkley and conservation work on the local rivers. He is a support guide on the Hidden Rivers (Megatron) tours.
