The story traces their experiences growing up on benefits in Northern Ireland during the 2010s, highlighting the challenges of poverty, austerity, and social inequality. The narrative blends personal history with broader societal issues, including the cost-of-living crisis and the enduring effects of class and identityThe play is a celebration of working-class music and resilience, featuring a soundtrack of Oasis, Bruce Springsteen, Sam Fender, and Manic Street Preachers. Music serves as both a narrative device and emotional anchor, reflecting teenage angst, sibling rivalry, and the struggle for self-expression. The story emphasizes pride, guilt, and survival, portraying the siblings’ journey with humor, energy, and authenticity. It also critiques societal neglect and media stereotyping of those on benefits, making it a politically and socially resonant piece.
