Wild Roots: Ramblers' Taster Walk
About
The Ramblers are a well-known and active charity that encourage people of all ages and abilities to get outside and enjoy the countryside. The Lancaster group is very active with a wide range of available walks.
This taster session is a 3-hour circular walk of Lancaster starting in Aldcliffe, going via Freeman's Wood and along the river and canal back to the starting point. At around 6 miles long, this is a manageable distance for anyone with a reasonable level of mobility and fitness. There will be a stop for coffee and snacks, so please bring along provisions.

- We start promptly, so please arrive at the location a few minutes before the start time.
Accessibility:
- This walk is not suitable for people in wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
What to wear:
- Sturdy footwear – this walk includes uneven ground and potentially slippery surfaces
- Weather-appropriate clothes, which may include a waterproof coat or a sun hat
What to bring along:
- Hot / cold drinks and snacks.
Parking and Meeting Point:
- In the carpark opposite Aldi (at Chancellors Wharf). Please note that this is not public parking. The what3words location for the meeting point is ///just.photo.wiring
- The nearest public car park is on Thurnham Street (near White Cross). The what3words location for this is: ///highs.safe.nails
- You may prefer to walk, cycle or use public transport to get to the meeting point. Buses run regularly to the stops at Royal Lancaster Infirmary from north and south.
Cancellation
We will only cancel the event in the case of extreme weather warning being issued by the Met Office. This is most likely to be wind-related.
We will not cancel in event of rainy or sunny weather.
