Wild Roots: History Talk & Tour of The Storey Gardens
About
This 1 hour session includes a 30 minute talk in The Storey and a 30-minute walking tour of The Gardens. The fascinating history of the gardens starts from their creation in the 1720s, through to purchase by Lancaster City Council in the 20th century and their use (amongst others) for 'dig for victory', bomb shelters and outdoor recreation for evacuees in the 2nd World War!
Gregory will trace the history of the gardens, from early roots to the site of a unique artwork by international artist Mark Dion. Friends of the Storey Gardens have been working hard to restore and enhance the gardens, an important part of which is to make them a haven for wildlife.
Led by Gregory Wright, a well-known Blue Badge Guide of 22 years, who was born and bred in Lancashire and has a fascination for history and folklore in his native North West.
