Food, Feelings, and Growing Up...
About
... A Parent’s Guide to Disordered Eating in Adolescence and Puberty.Growing up today involves intense pressures from social media and shifting body ideals. For some young people, food can become a way to cope, feel in control, or manage difficult emotions. In partnership with specialist clinic Orri, we are hosting this session to help our community navigate these challenges.
The session will be led by Kerrie Jones (Psychotherapist and Founder of Orri) and Paula Tait (Head of Dietetics), and will explore what is happening beneath eating behaviours and how to support children with confidence and care. The seminar moves beyond weight and food to look at the 'whole person'. Our guest speakers will explore:
- What is really going on beneath eating behaviours.
- How to spot early warning signs with confidence and care.
- Moving away from unhelpful narratives, such as food being 'earned'.
- Fostering healthy food narratives and leading with compassion.
Arrival: Refreshments will be available from 5:30 pm in the Piccadilly Café; please use the main car park and entrance.
Attendance & Suitability: While the seminar covers themes relevant to puberty, the discussion is clinical in nature, we recommend this for parents of children aged 13 and over. Pupils aged 13+ are welcome attend with parents; please ensure they have a ticket booked.
The maximum number of attendees for the event is 120.
Privacy: To ensure a safe space for honest and open dialogue, this session will not be recorded. A PDF containing all presented materials will be shared with attendees following the event.
