Graphic elicitation: Using diagramming and drawing
About
The session, facilitated by Dr Alison Bravington, will explore how to design and implement studies using diagramming and drawing as research tools. It will begin with an overview of how graphic elicitation has been used in qualitative research, and how diagrams and drawings represent human experience, informed by cognitive science. Participants will gain knowledge of a wide range of graphic elicitation techniques, find out how the elements of graphic visuals map on to research questions, and build an understanding of how to plan and conduct graphic elicitation interviews and how to incorporate participants’ images into the analytic process. Strategies will be provided to address common challenges and ethical concerns associated with diagramming and drawing in qualitative interviews. The session will include guided activities covering, in detail, two of the most fundamental diagramming techniques: timelining and Pictor. No artistic experience required!Date
