Join us for an evening of science-backed insights, practical strategies and honest conversation in a relaxed atmosphere in one of London's iconic pubs - The Elgin Maida Vale.We know that parenting can feel hard, especially in those everyday moments that escalate quickly or leave you wondering if you’ve handled things “right”.
There is no such thing as "perfect parenting" and in this workshop, we’ll make sense of what’s really going on beneath behaviour. Drawing on educational neuroscience and practical parenting approaches, we’ll explore how children’s brains work, why big reactions happen, and what is happening in the parent brain in those same moments.
We’ll look at how to move from power struggles to cooperation, how to follow through with firmness and kindness without falling into lectures or nagging, and how to master the principle of “connection before correction”.
We’ll bring this into real, everyday situations, including screens, homework, bedtime, and those tricky transitions that so often lead to tension at home. We'll explore how small shifts in the way we respond can strengthen trust, improve communication, and make family life feel calmer and more manageable.
You will gain practical skill that you can apply straight away and notice a significant change almost immediately.

About the facilitators, Liory and Gisele 🩷
We are Dr Liory Fern-Pollak and Dr Gisele Dias, both based at the UCL Institute of Education, where we work as Associate Professors and Parenting Educators. Our work focuses on supporting parents and educators to care for children with connection, respect and emotional wellbeing.
Liory is a mum of two, an Educational Neuroscientist and a Chartered Psychologist, with over 25 years’ experience in research and university-level teaching across cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, biopsychology and educational neuroscience.
Gisele is a mum of a beautiful boy and a Chartered Psychologist, with over 20 years expertise in teaching, researching and leading in the fields of education, neuroscience, coaching psychology, counselling and wellbeing.
Together, we advise and coach parents, carers and educators around everyday caring challenges such as emotional regulation, boundaries, sibling rivalry, screen time and gaming, homework, bedtime routines, power struggles, sleep, weaning and general behaviour concerns.
Our work is grounded in Positive Discipline, Adlerian psychology and evidence-based approaches, always shared with warmth and practical, real-life strategies. We are deeply passionate about helping parents and carers create calmer homes, strengthen relationships and feel more equipped and less alone.
