Distance - An Afternoon of Music & Poetry
About
What separates us, and what quietly refuses to? An intimate afternoon exploring the themes of home, belonging, identity and culture through live music, poetry and conversation, in the heart of London near Bond Street at Jak's Mayfair. The event begins with a live conversation and poetry reading with poet Alban Bala, exploring language, place, memory and what it means to carry more than one home within you. Throughout, Altin Gjoni sets the ambience with his guitar work.
Poetry gives way to music as Sara Payman, Mariela Cingo, and Altin Gjoni take to the stage with a set of original and reimagined songs performed live and acoustically. Their story mirrors the afternoon's themes. Altin moved from Albania to the UK, and Sara made the opposite journey; somewhere along the way, they found each other and formed a duo that now performs in both countries.
