Open Event: The Enabling Environment Supporting the Unique Child in Practice

Join Georgina for a practical and reflective workshop exploring how the enabling environment directly shapes outcomes for the unique child in everyday practice. Moving beyond theory this session focuses on purposeful action supporting practitioners to create environments that genuinely respond to children’s individual needs.

At the heart of the session is the concept of the unique child recognising that every child arrives with their own experiences, interests and starting points. It also reflects the fundamental rights of every child to be seen heard and listened to. Georgina will explore what it truly means to know, see and hear children in meaningful ways and how this understanding must drive both environment design and curriculum intent.
Clear connections will be made between the enabling environment curriculum design and high-quality teaching practice. Participants will consider how provision and intentional adult interactions can be used effectively to enhance engagement independence and positive learning outcomes for all children.

Practical strategies will support practitioners to refine and adapt their environments, so they are inclusive, responsive and purposeful. There will be a strong focus on creating environments that support belonging, curiosity and meeting individual needs. Alongside the importance of developing authentic relationships with families and the wider community to build a full picture of each child.

Looking ahead to September the session will support practitioners to think proactively about new cohorts ensuring environments are intentionally prepared to support transition, build security and establish strong foundations from day one.

Georgina will lead an interactive session designed to challenge thinking, share practice and support meaningful change in how environments are designed and used to support every child.
