Kendal Adventure Club #3
About
Kendal Adventure Club is a monthly adventure film and speaker event based in the centre of Kendal, Cumbria.Join us an evening of adventure, where we will have two local speakers and a selection of adventure films.
Speakers:
Ben Cianchi: Creating a Life of Adventure
"You're so lucky getting to go on all these trips" - a statement often heard and straight to the point. Ben has journeyed all over the world; cycling from London to Istanbul, white water Kayaked in the New Zealand Wilderness, led a world first expedition in Australia and most recently, rowed across the Atlantic. But perhaps it's not all about luck, perhaps it's not about luck at all. Join us as Ben tells us tales of his adventures, and how this 'normal' guy has managed to create a life of adventure.
Sara Barnes
Author of The Cold Fix and The Winter of Our Lives, Sara Barnes launched her own publishing imprint: CROOKED LAKE earlier this year with her novel Where the Beck Flows. It will showcase dark psychological dramas set against the evocative backdrop of Cumbria.
“I believe in the power of storytelling to move hearts and offer true escapism,” says Sara. “Life is now, and these stories demand to be told.” She survived two near-death experiences on the operating table last year, which made her
acutely aware of how short life can be.
Films:
Dear Heart [Emily Barnard]
Dear Heart is a love letter to living, not just being alive.
Filmed in the Lake District, it has been awarded six laurels on the
international film circuit, with screenings at Keswick Film Festival, Fort William Mountain Festival
and Northampton Film Festival.
Vegurinn til vanlíðunnar: The Descent into Discomfort [Sam Walker]
A 10-day, 209-mile crossing of Iceland from north to south. A journey that has profound physical and emotional challenges as its participants ‘descend into discomfort’.
Crossing landscapes that are as wild as they are beautiful - from the barren moonscape area known as “Exploding Sands” to intensely green volcanic valleys and lava fields. Escaping the pressures of work, social media, and home life to find freedom in the wide open silence of Iceland’s interior.
